The Lake District with its natural beauty and exceptional countryside hosted the Austrian Emperor Franz-Josef and his family for their summer vacations. Splendid hunts were held by Salzburgs Prince Archbishops. In this area you will experience the breathtaking beauty of one of Austria´s most beautiful regions – the Lake District just beyond the gates of the city of Salzburg.

Also Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was inspired by St. Gilgen, where his mother was born! Like many guests from all over the world he once appreciated the spectacular scenery and the crystal clear lake.

St. Wolfgang: You must make your way to the waterfront and see the lake up close. It is astonishing how blue and clear the lake is. Most of the glacial lakes in Austria bear this characteristicwhich is why the Salzkammergut region (where many of these lakes are found within the Austrian Alps) is so wonderfully beautiful.

Bad IschlThe Kaiservilla, the Imperial Villa, was the summer residence of the Emperor of Austriaand later of Austria-Hungary. The house is still the residence of the Habsburg family. The apartments which can be visited in the Imperial Villa are the salons, the Emperors private rooms and several of the family rooms.
